Gareth Nyandoro, “…READ ALL ABOUT”
Daily life
in Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, is the subject of the work of Gareth
Nyandoro, an artist who calls the city home. For his first show in NYC,
Nyandoro captures the hustle and bustle of the African nation’s largest
conurbation in broad rough strokes on pieces of paper mounted on large expanses
of unstretched canvas. As part of his process, Nyandoro often creates his
images (of people or advertising on the street) with furrows of sharp,
etching-like lines incised in the surface of his pieces—a technique that speaks
to his background as a printmaker.
