The Tsichritzis Art
Foundation presents the first solo painting exhibition of Eleni Sameli
Varouxakis titled “Journey of life”_Color and light.
Eleni Sameli
Varouxakis guides us on a journey to the color and splendor of the sea, as well
as to the symbols of her world, in her first solo exhibition titled
"Journey of life_ Color and Light".
At the exhibition Art
works of acrylic and oil on canvas and plexiglas are presented, all of which
are the result of the last two years of work by the artist who already has
participated in many group art exhibitions in Greece and abroad (Paris, Cannes)
and after her Architecture studies in England.
The Art Historian
mrs. Emmy Varouxakis notes at her text titled “THE COLORS OF CALMNESS”:
“Art, and especially
painting, is a writing that stems from the artist's inner world. It's an
expression of mind and soul according with his experiences, memories and
distant expectations, denatured in gesture, colors, composition and economy of
space. No one else than him can penetrate into the white canvas and manage to
fill the vacuum carried off with almost automatic, orchestrating and direct
movements, using the time that he defines and arranges passing over the image multiple times in
order to give the final and ideal form he has inside him.
Therefore, Eleni Sameli Varouxakis in her
solo exhibition at the Tsichritzis Foundation owning to a great collector and
benefactor in Kifissia, brings with her a world of shapes and colours of her
own design and personal aesthetics. Her works are original, personal,
unaffected. Some experts speak of impressionist achievements. In her paintings
the light changes around her boats into the sea and the sky, creating shades
and highlights in basic tones of blue, brown and white. Her touch comes out of
a spatula (palette knife) with power and determination. It's not a stroke but a
"touche", a touch of color on the canvas. Her theme is deliberately
simplified, the boats come out of a fairytale, proud and straight through the
waves, ignoring the foaming wave that exists to glorify the color. Meanwhile
they embrace the wind, the brotherhood, the passion and utopia.
Vessels in the foreground, vertical and dense
lines in the depth of the horizon as a fleet along the way, ready for a forward
meeting, moving in a quieter atmosphere without tension.
Harmony and tranquility come out of all the
works of Eleni Sameli Varouxakis, either in seascapes or flowers and starfish, even in hearts in a
colorful festive environment. Every theme is good when color "sings"
in it. Until her last flowers became fireworks breaking the contours. Her works
don't arrive at expressionist condensation because she keeps the measure of
Greek view and the sense of tranquility, mental serenity and philosophical
attractivity. Values that have taught us and remain in the memory of all
Hellenes throughout the ages of Epichtetus, Epicurus, and their disciples. Life
attitude and ways that have sustained us through many turbulences and upheavals,
and succeeded in continuing to exist at the new generation that Eleni
represents today.
As she believes, there is harmony, peace of
soul in nature and life, and that's what she wants to express in her paintings.
So, as the stoic philosophers believed the same and they did schools to teach
it as a way of life, why not to be glad to see this tradition live to a new
artist today ?
Let's give attention to Eleni's world
because it expresses us all, at least in our happy moments. The search for happiness
is the right of all, and if art manages to bring it to us, we do not close our
eyes. We are made to accept it as a piece of music played by wonderful
instruments. It is certain that as a whole, the works of our new painter
introduce us to a world full of harmonious balances, happy moments and pleasant
memories.”
